Maeklong Railway Market + Damnoen Floating Market

There are quite a few floating markets in Bangkok but we wanted to visit the oldest and the most beautiful. This is also the most tourist filled of the floating markets for those same reasons. We headed out as early as we could to get to the floating market as soon as it opened. Our taxi driver dropped us off at a little ship and they found someone to take us on a boat ride around the market. The ride started out very peaceful and quiet. We had a few minute ride before we would arrive at the market and it was a sweet moment for us. Floating along the quiet waters turned out to be a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok.

We finally arrived at the market and we could tell things were just getting started. Not all of the shops were open and the vendor boats were just getting all of their goodies ready to sell. It didn’t take long for us to make our first floating market purchase none other than Thailand’s famous and oh so delicious mango sticky rice! We enjoyed our treat while we continued floating down the market.

Normally this market is so packed that your boat can hardly make it down the river. While we were there it was almost a little too empty with a lot of shops still closed but from videos we have watched about this market during peak hours
