Elephant Mud Bath! | Chiang Mai, Thailand

There are not many things in this life as magical as spending the day with elephants. We had the most magical day at Karen Elephant Sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

We started the day getting into some traditional clothes from the Karen tribe. This helps the elephants feel more at home with us and makes the day go as smoothly as possible. Once we were all ready we headed to meet the elephants.

We were able to feed them bananas and sugar cane. The girls even got to give one elephant a drink with a garden hose. It was amazing to watch the elephant take in the water with her trunk and spray it in her mouth. The sound was even incredible!

After that we went on a walk with the elephants. There are no words to describe what its like to walk next to these beautiful giants! Watching them in their natural habitat roaming free and for them to let us be a part of that was truly spectacular. Our guides carried lots of food for us to give the elephants and they just kept coming back for more.

We were lucky enough to have a baby elephant as part of our group and she was so cute! Chloe and Alexa loved feeding her the most. They had this special little bond a little ones it was absolutely precious!

Next the elephants had a little time to themselves while we ate lunch and made them some special food medicine to make sure they had all the nutrition they need for the day. They were a lot like the granola bars I make for the girls but specifically filled with things the elephants need.

It was finally time to make our way to the mud bath! This is the part of the day that we had been waiting for and it was certainly the highlight. One of the adult elephants stepped into the mud first and laid down. They had us take off our shoes so that we wouldn’t loose them in the mud and then we stepped in. The mud squished between our toes and the girls were a little hesitant at first but it didn’t take long before they were flinging mud everywhere and taking a mud bath themselves!

It was so amazing picking up the mud and rubbing it all over our beautiful new friends. They seemed to love it! We were all completely covered in mud and having the time of our lives. I could have stayed in that mud pit forever. The rest of our group got out and we we stayed in as long as the guides would let us.

Being up so close and personal with these elephants will be a memory that we will never forget. We can’t wait to visit our elephant friends and all of the kind people at the Karen Elephant Experience again someday soon.
